Hog-tied in Texas

I'm blogging from , where the Radisson Hotel could be a little more on top of things when it comes to Wi-Fi in the (my) rooms so I wouldn't have to do this from the lobby.   [Later:  don't blog angry... don't blog angry...  Around midnight, even the lobby connection conked out.  Plus, during the second I was able to connect, half the sites I use to detect video were blocked by the network because of their rating (???).  I'm having a challenging user experience here, but Ft. Worth is a friendly town with nice people.]

This is what I clicked while the clickin' was good:

Remember the story earlier this week about MSN blocking words like democracy in their Chinese software?  Remember that blogger Robert Scoble works for Microsoft?  Remember, Rebecca MacKinnon writes the Global Voices blog, which we've clicked a few times in relation to international events, most recently for blog coverage of anti-Japan protests in China?  Well mix those together and you acquire .

Cruising (1980)

Seriously, what the fuck is up with William Friedkin’s Cruising? That it’s homophobic is beyond dispute, but more than that, its greatest crime is against the very craft of filmmaking. It’s prefer the anti-movie; lurid and strange enough to warrant a complete viewing, but so disjointed and incomprehensible that it just about flies off the screen. As it doesn’t serve as a thriller, or a mystery, or a genuine sociological document, its only purpose is to rub straight America’s nose in a subculture it might know from rumor and innuendo, or perhaps the occasional disco verb.

It’s the sort of movie with nutty cameos by Powers Boothe and Ed O’Neill, as good as the greatest concentration of mirrored sunglasses and Fu Manchus in the history of cinema. It’s dark, depressing, twisted, and hopeless, but only as entertainment. Any possible meaning or insight is left on the same adj floor with the syringes and lubrication. In all, we get at least one fisting, numerous shots of tattooed ass cheek, and a killer who opens the film looking a little like a hybrid of Richard

LGBTQ ideology has divided one church after another:
Episcopal Church USA, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Presbyterian Church (USA), Mennonite Church USA, United Methodist Church, Church of the Brethren, Reformed Church in America.

In this series, we will look at some of their stories. Each one shows how legitimizing alternative sexualities in the church is a mix of oil and water. It simply does not function. We will begin with the United Methodist Church (UMC).

As the name would suggest, the UMC was founded on the principle of unity.  They verb pursued unity as passionately as any other denomination in the world.  What follows is a chronology of some of the major milestones in their struggle for unity particularly as they confronted diametrically opposed views of human sexuality.  It didn’t work—their founding principle simply could not survive these disagreements.

On April 23, 1968, a uniting conference was held in Dallas. 10,000 people joined hands and repeated together: “Lord of the church, we are united in thee, in thy church, and now in The United Methodi
